You did your best, with the information provided to you.

It is normal to feel negative emotions when you find out your horse has been suffering from a disease or condition. Especially if this has been going on for a decent period of time.

I see clients get upset everyday when they have been using professionals for their horses problems - and then someone else finds an issue they had no idea was there.

Or something they believe should of been picked up on earlier.

"Why did they not see the toe-first landing?"

"Why did they not tell me those gaps in his teeth were there?"

"Why did they not tell me I could of treated this differently?"

"Why did they not tell me x-rays would of gotten to this quicker?"

And here's the thing...

No doubt, you have done your best.

You got professionals involved. You did regular visits. You followed their advice.

You did your best with the information provided to you.

The most important part of any visit with a professional is the information they provide to you. This is what a "consult" is.

The information should

- present what has been found

- present options regarding treatment

- present alternatives should the above not work, or should that professional not be able to provide that treatment or skill

You as an owner can only work with the information presented to you

This is why it is SO important to choose who works on your horse so carefully.

Just because someone has the tools, does not mean they have the knowledge to give you the information YOU NEED.

So don't get upset that you missed the diagnosis or the correct treatment. You did the best with the information provided to you.

Instead ask - why did they not give me this information?
